The new Jam from Elguji Software

Bruce Elgort (@belgort) of Elguji Software has really been teasing the Lotus Community the last couple of weeks, giving hints about a new Jam product they're working on.

IdeaJam and LinkJam are both great products from Elguji Software, and their latest Jam product, looks interesting and good. Introducing IQJam - An Innovative Collaborative Question and Answer Community for the Enterprise.

The UI is good, and is created using XPages, and running on Domino it can't be bad. :)
I'm very impressed of what Bruce, Matt and Gayle of Elguji are creating based on the IBM Lotus Domino platform. Using the technology to make killer apps.

Here's a brief quote from the introduction email I received yesterday:

IQJam is the perfect solution for organizations looking to capitalize on the knowledge of their employees. The concept is amazingly simple - people ask questions and other people answer them. Questions and their answers can be voted up or down. Voting allows the IQJam community to identify questions that they would like to see answered. Voting on answers helps identify the correct answer as well as eliminate ones that may be incorrect. Once the correct answer has been entered, it is marked by the user as being "answered".

More facts about IQJam:

  • Built specifically for IBM Lotus Domino 8.5.1 using XPages.
  • Will have a publicly accessible site called IQJam.net that will serve the IBM Lotus Community. This site will be available once 8.5.1 is GA.
  • Built by the same developers who built the award winning IdeaJam.
  • Used by almost any kind of web browser: Web Browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Mozilla Firefox 2 and 3, Apple Safari 3 and 4 and Google Chrome
Here's some teaser screenshots of the product:

Domino 8.5 and DME Sync

Just received a Service Bulletin from Excitor describing a problem with Domino 8.5 DIIOP task and DME Sync.

Known error in IBM Domino 8.5

This Service Bulletin applies to customers who are using the IBM Domino collaboration system, and who plan to upgrade to Domino version 8.5.

A known error in the DIIOP functionality in IBM Domino 8.5 causes the DIIOP task to crash when a client connects to it.

This error makes it impossible for the DME server to connect to Domino using DIIOP.

IBM has resolved this error for Domino 8.5.1. A release date for this version has not been set, but it is expected later this year. For more information, find the relevant issue at the IBM home page. The issue number is SPR #PJON7RJKX9.

We had a few servers that were going to be upgraded to 8.5 today, but that upgrade has been postponed...

Connections Dogears vs Delicious

At work we now have a pilot installation of Lotus Connections 2.0, as some parts of the business wants to use Profiles for a phone book. All modules of Connections are installed and ready to use.

Now I have loads of different bookmarks about the Lotus products and wants to share these with my colleagues. I have imported all my Lotus bookmarks into Connections and to a newly registered account on Delicious. Which one is the best? For our Connections service I have to be on the internal LAN, so if you're not connected to this you will not see my bookmarks, while Delicious is "open wide" on the internet. At least mine is as I have set them to public.

First impression is that Connections has a better UI than Delicious, and I like the tag cloud, which Delicious doesn't have. Or at least I haven't found it. ;)

One thing I don't like about Connections is that if I list my tags, not all tags show up. Maybe it's just a setting, but still... This should be default.

Will look more into this on both Connections and Delicious. Maybe I also should check with my colleagues if the use any of my bookmarks...

Lotus Traveler installed

Yesterday I installed Lotus Traveler 8.5 for test purposes, and it is probably one of the easiest installations I have ever done.

As a pre-requirement a colleague of mine had copied the software, both Domino 8.5, the 8.5 fix for Adminp and the Lotus Traveler, and we had made the necessary firewall adjustments.

From the moment I stopped the Domino service before upgrade to everything was up and running again, the Lotus Traveler client on my Nokia E71 included, it took me 40 minutes.
